This lesson plan contains 15 actual worksheets for students to enjoy as they discover the Underground Railroad and its history. There are 12 lessons covering each symbol used by runaway slaves. The symbols are graphic in nature so they make excellent 2 dimensional design templates. Teachers can take all the finished art and create a quilt design by taping all the student work together to form one large piece of art, or a quilt style design. This makes for great art for the school or classroom. This lesson teaches a student to see patterns and to control color within a decorative fashion while learning and appreciating American history.
